Dear Shipmates:  I have read the NAVSEA letter many times and it is my opinion that nothing short of a miracle will change their decision to sink Forrestal.  In a discussion with a NAVSEA rep, I indicated that I would be writing to SECNAV to request reversal of the Navy's decision to sink Forrestal, and that the Forrestal Association might try to start a Media Blitz to save our ship.  He stated that any reply from SECNAV would come from the NAVSEA office and the decision would remain unchanged.  I don't remember the exact words, but I think he indicated that a Media Blitz would be a waste of time based on previous attempts by other ship's organizations.

 

The miracle we need almost immediately is a supportive community in an ideal location with a pier that would accommodate Forrestal.  This coupled with a donation of 15/20 million dollars from any source might save our ship. Don't look good.  Remember the Spirit!!  Hugh
