Forrestal ClassifiedsSearching for a shipmate (or information on one)Searching for a cruisebook, etc. From USS Forrestal Association Historian Ken KillmeyerWe are still in need of five USS Forrestal cruise books in order to complete our Association's collection. The cruise books needed are: 1971; 1974; 1975; 1978; and 1986. All of your help in this pursuit has been, and continues to be, appreciated. It's a very important aspect of the historical record of our ship. We also are still looking to obtain the following squadron patches to complete our USS Forrestal - Squadron Patch Collection:
Some of you have copies of the ship's newspapers: Fifty Niner, Forerunner, Forrestal Flyer, Family Gram, FIDGRAM and Plan of the Day's. We are hoping that you could find some free time and make a xerox copy of what you have and share your copies. These newspapers contain a wealth of information that is not contained in the Cruise Books or Deck Logs. The information that these newspapers contain is vital to completing the more personal history of Forrestal's Ship's Company and Squadron crewmembers. Any assistance in obtaining missing copies will be greatly appreciated. Once again, it is an honor and a pleasure to serve as your Historian. I wish you all a happy and healthy New Year. IF YOU CAN HELP CONTACT Ken Killmeyer at kenfidhist@aol.com Searching for pictures to add to the web site. Scott Routt is looking for a picture of a "mural" that was painted on the 03 possibly the 02 level aft on the ship, port side.
The picture is of the ship as a white bearded father figure and the aircraft in the air group with their own painted personalities. I
want to post a picture of it on the web site as a kind of shipboard "nose art", if anyone knows who painted it I would like to give them credit, thanks.
I am also trying to put together a collection of "Forrestal nose art" as a new feature. If you have pictures of the squadron planes with their insignia please send them, I am especially looking
for any that were actually painted on the nose (e.g., Christmas of 1991 VS-28 painted the names of Santa's reindeer
on the noses of their S-3B Vikings, I believe "Rudolph" even had a red nose.) of the aircraft. I am
also looking for photos of the inside of Forrestal (e.g., the bridge, mess decks, engineering, berthing, etc.) for the ship's tour I
am trying to create for the web site. Email me at: routts@erols.comFlyer front page |
